Christmas Cheer Ends

Congratulations Ladies and Gentlemen!!!
Christmas Cheer has come to an end and I couldn't be more proud of all the effort you have put in!! Each and every one of you have made a difference within our community and are helping feed those in need this holiday season! This year we raised 421 items equalling 516 points! Missing 2nd place by a mere 2 points!!! Give yourselves all a pat on the back; we did it! We've reached our goal and will be having our own classroom party this Friday. Keep voting for the theme located on the right side. Thanks again for all your help and dedication, our goal couldn't have been reached without you all.

Literary Circles

This past week we have learned how to interpret literary text using Literature Circles. On Monday we read an article about Shelter House that contained information about poverty and homelessness in Thunder Bay and how Shelter House is an organization that is supporting those people in need rather than finding the core problem. We then split up into the different Literary Roles: Summarizers, Illustrators, Word Wizards, Literary Luminaries, Scene Setters, Rad Researchers, and Questioners. These roles helped us analyze the text further and gain a deeper understanding of a current event taking place at our school. They also helped us interpret the text in many different forms expanding our critical thinking skills. Using these same roles and what we've learned from that article we were able to come up with the different areas for our blog but using what we know about Christmas Cheer and our classroom's participation.
With that being said, I hope you enjoy exploring our blog and the great work you all put in to making it a great piece of work! Great teamwork! Keep it up Grade 8's and I'm positive we can meet our goal.

Christmas Cheer

The Shelter House needs your help. Christmas Cheer is getting larger and larger every year. Over 12, 000 meals served and thousands of other gifts donated like books and stuffed animals, but the need for donations also grows every year.

There are three ways you can help Christmas Cheer to continue helping the needy. The ways are money, gifts, and time.
